Forensic Pathology Fellowship

Program(s): The Saint Louis University Department of Pathology offers a 1 year accredited training program in forensic pathology directed towards board certification. The training is based at the City of St. Louis Medical Examiner's Office. Among the approximately 2600 deaths annually reported to the office there are approximately 125 homicides, 60 suicides and 330 accidents. The resident functions as a forensic pathologist under the supervision of a senior pathologist and conducts autopsies (up to 2 daily), attends scenes, interacts with families and treating physicians, and acts as a consultant to police and attorneys. Case material is supplemented by select cases from surrounding jurisdictions. Dedicated rotations in toxicology and police laboratories;monthly clinicopathology conferences with trauma surgery service, monthly forensic neuropathology conferences;attendance at Medicolegal Death Investigators' Course in addition to a national meeting.

Requirements: Successfully completed accredited pathology residency in AP or AP/CP.

Types and Numbers of Appointments: One fellow is trained�per year as an assistant medical examiner/forensic pathologist.

Stipends: Commensurate with level of training.
